Give Your Skin A Boost This Autumn

Posted by MySkin Clinics, 18 March 2020

As the last days of autumn slowly but surely leave us behind we must accept that winter is coming. While the drop in temperature may not be so welcome, the cold weather gives us a chance for a bit of much needed R&R.

Summer is the time to let go and we all eat a bit more, drink a little too much and generally enjoy ourselves – sometimes at the expense of our body. If the sun and good vibes have taken their toll, it’s time for a little rehabilitation. Here are a few ways you can treat your skin and body in Autumn, from your face all the way down to those oft-neglected feet.

Face

For your face it’s essential to use a targeted exfoliate to gently strip away those dry, dead skin cells without harsh scratching. We recommend a specially formulated peel like those from the Aspect DR range. These don’t contain nasties like propylene glycol, petrochemicals, parabens or harsh preservatives and are never tested on animals.

Of course, a salon clinical peel will provide an additional level of exfoliation and stimulation that you just don’t get from at-home treatments. Clinical peels vary in strength and our qualified therapists will select the treatment that best suits your skin type and specific concerns.

Autumn in Melbourne is notoriously dry and windy so your skin also needs extra moisture to combat the changing weather. Skin is so susceptible to humidity so what works in summer isn’t going to necessarily going to suit your skin in autumn. Switch your light moisturiser to a thicker cream, which generally contain more vitamins and minerals and provide an additional layer of protection for your skin.

If you’ve been upping the moisturisation but still not seeing results, your skin might just needs an additional infusion of vitamins. Skin infusion uses sonophreresis (sound waves) to transport vitamin molecules into the deeper layers of the skin. Vitamin Therapy can be combined with a clinical peel to really up the results.

Body

Your body can also benefit from a good exfoliation to both smooth away the dead skin cells and allow moisturising treatments (so needed in the dry Melbourne winter) to penetrate deeper. Dry body brushing helps to stimulate the body and is a great way to ‘wake up’ in the morning before your shower (or coffee). You can also use a gorgeous scrub – we’re loving cacao and sugar scrubs for a dash of added sweetness – to exfoliate and hydrate at the same time.

Hands

Your hands go through so much that they are often the first place to show signs of aging. You should treat them just as well as you treat the skin on your face by exfoliating, moisturising and protecting them.

Keep a moisturiser beside every sink in your house and use it every time you wash your hands. For an extra boost, use your fancy overnight moisturiser on your hands as well (go on, they deserve it).

And of course make sure that you’re using a sunscreen on them everyday – just think about how much sun your hands get on them, even when the rest of your body is all rugged up.

Feet

Feet often get the least attention, but just because they spend the colder months hidden away in boots doesn’t mean you should forget about them entirely. A foot soak followed by gentle exfoliation will stimulate circulation and get rid of those unsightly cracked heels. Follow up with a moisturising cream to revive those tired tootsies.
