What causes Spider Veins?

Spider veins are broken capillaries and small red lines just under the surface of the skin which may appear on the face or legs. These veins are caused by unhealthy, low functioning valves within ‘feeder’ veins, which allow blood to flow backwards, rather than back up to the heart. Although harmless, many people choose to undergo treatment to reduce and remove the unsightly appearance of these veins – which can be safely erased using our laser technology.

How does Capillary/Vein Removal work?

MySkin Clinics use laser technology to eliminate unwanted broken capillaries. Using specific wave lengths, our highly qualified Skin Therapists apply laser light to the affected areas. The heat from the laser causes the walls of the broken capillaries to collapse inward and disappear leading to clear beautiful skin. The destroyed capillaries are reabsorbed by the body without affecting the surrounding tissue. One to four treatments may be required for best results, depending on individual client requirements. We recommend a complimentary consultation with our Skin Therapists to determine if you are the right candidate for this procedure.

Preparation
  • Stay out of the sun and solariums for at least two to four weeks before your treatment. Use a sunscreen (SPF30+), applied hourly while you are exposed. Do not use any form of tanning throughout your treatment; this includes accidental sun exposure, such as driving and daily activities.
  • Sun exposure, before and after treatment, will increase the risk of complications or side effects, such as pigmentation and burns.
  • Do not use self-tan/spray for one to two weeks before your treatment. The procedure may have to be postponed if you have a tan.
  • Do not wax, pluck or bleach at least two to four weeks before and during your
treatment.
  • Do not use Retin-A for two weeks prior to treatment.
  • Do not use Roaccutane for six months prior to treatment.
Aftercare
  • Apply Aspect Dr’s Redless to the treated body area twice per day for 5-7 days.
  • Redness is common for a couple of hours to a couple of days after treatment. The redness is a natural response and usually disappears within a few hours. In some cases it can last longer, but is unlikely to last more than two days. Regular application of ASAP daily moisturizer will dramatically improve recovery time.
  • Until redness has completely subsided, avoid performing activities that that cause excessive perspiration.
  • Avoid swimming pools and spas treated with chemicals or chlorine until the skin returns to its normal condition.
  • You may shower afterwards using lukewarm water, but avoid hot showers until the skin returns to its normal skin condition. Wash the treated area gently with mild, unscented soap and pat dry (do not rub).
  • In the unusual case of crusting, swelling of the skin, apply Aspect Dr’s Redless and please advise us immediately. Do not pick at these areas, as this may result in infection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes broken capillaries?

Capillaries are the tiny blood vessels just below the surface of the skin. They are extremely fragile, easily damaged and, until recently, difficult to repair. As we age, they sometimes appear around the nose, cheeks and chin. Whether caused by heredity or excessive exposure to sun and wind, their appearance can be aggravated by environmental factors such as spicy food or exercise, or by emotional responses.

How can laser treatment help?

Heat from the laser, applied directly to the affected area, breaks down the already damaged walls of the capillaries, causing them to collapse in on themselves. The destroyed capillaries are then reabsorbed by the body, disappearing entirely. The laser affects only the red area, leaving normal surrounding tissue unaffected.

What results can I expect?

1-4 treatments may be required depending on individual client requirements.

Does Capillary/Vein Removal hurt?

Clients report this treatment as relatively pain free according to individual pain thresholds. It has been described as feeling like an elastic band snapping against the skin. This non-invasive, safe treatment may induce some redness for a day and/or some minor swelling for up to three days.

Capillary/Vein Removal Results

Results from Capillary/Vein Removal can take from 2 to 6 weeks to notice, this is while the lymphatic system absorbs the collapsed capillary veins.

The final results will vary between clients, depending on the size and region of the vein, therefore treatment can take between 1 and 4 sessions.
