How do Dermal Fillers Work?

As we age, our faces begin to lengthen or look tired due to volume loss of facial muscle and tissue as collagen production in the body slows down. Dermal fillers help restore this lost volume, enhancing the natural shape of the face for a fresher, more rejuvenated appearance.

Dermal Fillers, made from a naturally occurring sugar molecule, are injected below the skin’s surface to fill-in wrinkles or hollow areas, add volume, structure and definition to the cheeks and lips.

Our highly qualified Registered Nurses administer dermal filler injections and create a personalised treatment plan to achieve natural-looking and feeling results.

Dermal Filler Results

The results are immediate, however there may be light swelling and/or bruising in the days following the procedure – this is perfectly normal. We recommend booking a follow up consultation with our Registered Nurses 2 weeks following treatment to assess the results.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels that restore volume to areas of the face. Many contain a substance that replicates the actions of a naturally occurring sugar molecule, attracting and holding water to assist with skin hydration. The products can be placed below the skin’s surface to provide more youthful contours and smoother skin.

How quickly will I see results?

Dermal Fillers produce instant results – a typical first procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes.

Are dermal fillers safe?

The dermal fillers used by MySkin Clinics are extremely safe, with a low incidence of allergic reaction. Some degree of temporary redness and swelling may be present for up to two days following the procedure.

How are dermal fillers applied?

Dermal fillers are injected and remain in the skin, where they produce a lift and gives firmness to the treated area.  Depending upon the area being treated, a local anaesthetic may – or may not – be necessary.  In the case of lip enhancement, we do recommend a local anaesthetic injection to alleviate discomfort.

How long does the treatment take?

A dermal filler treatment usually takes 30 minutes, depending upon the number of areas being treated.

How long to dermal fillers last?

Although treatment effects can last up to 12 months, top up treatments will be required to maintain the desired effects.

Are there any side effects?

Your practitioner will discuss in detail what to expect from treatment at your consultation. Reported most common side effects from dermal fillers include: injection site redness, pain, swelling, firmness, lumps and bumps, bruising, itching or discolouration.

In the vast majority of cases, these effects are temporary and should resolve within a week.
