Hair Removal Methods: Why Laser is the Best

Posted by MySkin Clinics, 18 March 2020

Unwanted hair can be a nightmare, and let’s face it, no one actually enjoys having to deal with hair removal. The needs of individuals can differ depending on skin type and hair texture. What works for someone else might not necessarily work for you.

So when you’re weighing up the options consider the following:

Shaving

The beauty of shaving is that it’s the quickest, easiest way to get rid of hair in the comfort of your own home.  The not-so-fun part is that it only cuts your hair off at the skin’s surface, so before you can say “smooth and silky” it has already started growing back. And that’s not even taking into account the nightmare of ingrown hairs!

Depilatory

Depilatory creams work by dissolving the hair, and can be a convenient alternative if you’re tired of shaving. The hair is only removed at the surface of the skin, so you will likely be required to repeat the process as frequently as shaving.

Always remember to do a patch test prior to smothering your skin with a depilatory cream as the chemicals contained can be harmful to sensitive skin.

Waxing

If you’re sick of spending your precious time on daily hair removal, waxing might be a better alternative for you. Waxing pulls the hair from the root, which provides you with longer lasting, smooth skin. Instead of having to revisit the area after a couple of days, waxing can last anywhere from three to six weeks.

Those with a low tolerance for pain might want to sit this one out, as it can sting somewhat. Visiting a waxing salon can also be pricey – but doing it at home can be messy, so there are a few options to weigh up before taking the plunge.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis works to destroy the hair follicle by sending an electric current down a needle which is inserted into the follicle.

This is a permanent form of hair removal, however it can be painful, can scar if not performed correctly, and is extremely time consuming. For full results, many sessions are required, and as electrolysis involves concentrating on one hair follicle at a time, each session can last a number of hours.

Laser

Laser hair removal is another long-term solution to your unwanted hair woes. It works by directing an intense pulse light to damage the follicle, hindering future hair growth.

Like electrolysis, laser hair removal will require a few sessions; however, these sessions will last mere minutes, as opposed to countless hours in the electrolysis chair!

If you’re keen to be forever fuzz-free, laser hair removal is the best option. Clinics such as MySkin are at the forefront of technology, enabling us to treat different skin types appropriately by choosing from a variety of lasers.

While laser hair removal does require more money up front compared with other methods (like shaving or depilatory creams), in the long run, it’s a pretty great deal. If you think shaving or waxing is cheaper, keep in mind this is a chore you will need to fund for the rest of your days…not so cheap now, is it?!
